We look forward to seeing you at the Bryn Mawr Club of New York City Annual Meeting next Wednesday, May 23. Our featured speaker will be Joanna Underwood, ’62, Environmental Activist and President of ENERGY VISION, speaking on From Horses to Hydrogen: The Path to Sustainable Transportation.
A leader in the environmental movement, a respected researcher and effective advocate for enlightened public policy and improved business practices for more than three decades, Joanna has recently founded Energy Vision to promote alternative fuels for a sustainable transportation future, innovative technologies, more efficient vehicles and greater security by ending dependence on foreign oil. Before Energy Vision, Joanna was the President of the national environmental research organization INFORM.
Joanna remains engaged with Bryn Mawr, working with undergraduates to develop a "research and problem-solving" project for a new Environmental Studies class to be launched next fall. She has also been supervising two students doing individual research projects: one on the pollution from petroleum used by truck fleets in the Philadelphia area and the potential for reducing pollution by a shift to natural gas trucks, and the other looking at renewable bio-methane, a gas fuel from landfills, sewage treatment plants, agricultural and dairy operations, which has potential as a clean, renewable vehicle fuel.
