Gala Fundraising Party and Auction
Tuesday, April 17, 2007

You will receive your invitations soon for the New York Bryn Mawr community’s biggest event, the Gala Fundraising Party and Auction, when we all come together to meet old friends, make new ones and maintain the momentum of the Club’s fundraising efforts, including establishing a New York City Bookshop/Bookspace to support the purposes of the Club and the College.

Please consider what you can contribute to the cause, your time (see above for the volunteer pre-auction party) or interesting, valuable goods for the silent and live auctions. Donations continue to come in, but we need your donated items with a realistic value of at least $100 that people will compete to buy. We want you and everyone to find interesting and useful items at the auction. Watch your mailbox for the Club’s newsletter, which includes a printed donor form.

To make a donation, please contact Tanya Doughty Olyphant, ’70, Auction Chair, at tolyphant@aol.com or 212 570 9885 for more information and to receive a Donor Form by email. The donations are coming in but we need more to make the gala a spectacular success.

Bryn Mawr Book Club

One Monday, March 12, Book Club will discuss Case Studies by Kate Atkinson.

From www.reviewsofbooks.com:
Case Histories revolve around three family tragedies:a disappearance of a young girl, a man sees his daughter murdered, and a wife takes an axe to her husband.  More than a decade later, private detective Jackson Brodie gets involved investigating some aspect of all three cases. As he delves further into each one, he uncovers family secrets perhaps left behind unopened doors.  Brodie must deal with his own family troubles while discovering the actions and violence that tears others asunder. The New Zealand Herald says, ‘Although Case Histories feels almost like a detective novel, it's more than that. Not every case is solved neatly by the end, but Atkinson does present an entertaining tale—sometimes shocking, sometimes laughable—of how our lives intertwine and actions reverberate.’

WHAT: Discussion of Case Studies by Kate Atkinson
WHEN:  Monday, March 12
7:00 p.m.
WHERE:  Home of Jim Kafadar and Elizabeth Holloway
350 Bleecker Street, Apt 6E (ring buzzer no.35 if doorman is on break)
(between Charles and 10th Street)
New York, NY 10014
212 645 2737

The selection for April is His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik, date TBD.

Even if you can't attend Bryn Mawr Book Club, reading suggestions are always welcome—just send me an email. Elizabeth Holloway, robinsonholloway@gmail.com
