Tell Those Things to "Stuff It"
Getting the Upper Hand with Treasures and Trash

It’s time for Spring Cleaning! Learn how to get the upper hand with the "Stuff" that clogs your space, weighs you down and refuses to go away. Nearly everyone knows this feeling at some or several life stages, and it can become especially acute when you need to assist aging relatives downsize in addition to managing your own cluttered life.

This interactive panel event will address the many aspects of "Stuff":

  • The psychology of accumulation and letting go
  • Methods of approaching and organizing things to fit a changed lifestyle
  • Becoming re-involved with older relatives after decades of independence
  • Advice about how and where to sell or donate your things
  • Practical information on assisting seniors to manage their things

Panelists will include several Bryn Mawr alumnae who are involved in these issues professionally as well as a result of their personal experience.

WHAT:  Panel Discussion on Managing "Stuff"
WHEN:  Wednesday, April 19
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
WHERE:  Home of Blaikie Forsyth Worth, ‘51

Bryn Mawr Book Club

The next book club meeting is Thursday, April 6, to discuss Appointment in Samarra by John O'Hara.

An edited description from www.powells.com:

"John O’Hara (1905—70) received instant acclaim for Appointment in Samarra, his first novel, and quickly came to be regarded as one of the most prominent writers in America. The book opens in December 1930, just before Christmas, with the Gibbsville social circuit electrified by parties and dances, where the music plays late into the night and the liquor flows freely. At the center of the social elite stand Julian and Caroline English—the envy of friends and strangers alike. But in one rash moment born inside a highball glass, Julian breaks with polite society and begins a rapid descent toward self-destruction. With trademark verisimilitude, John O'Hara captures the personal politics and easy bitterness of small-town life in the most widely read of his books."

WHAT: Discussion of Appointment in Samarra by John O'Hara
WHEN:  Thursday, April 6
7:00 p.m.
WHERE:  Elizabeth Holloway
350 Bleecker Street, Apt 6E (ring buzzer no.35 if doorman is on break)
