Bryn Mawr Club of New York City DUES Please contribute your tax-deductible annual dues to the Club before the end of 2005. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Club's first auction gala was held October 20 as part of the fundraising effort in support of a New York City bookspace. The event was attended by over 200 alumnae and showcased over 100 goods and services that went to the highest bidders. It was a festive event connecting alumnae who, in addition to seeing old friends, witnessed the generosity and talents of those who donated auction items. Most importantly, we raised over $35,000 towards the bookspace project with this kickoff event! Thanks to all those who worked to make it such a successful evening! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Young Alumnae Cookie Decorating Event Young alumnae, classes 1995-2005, are invited to come bake and decorate cookies for a good cause: we are donating them to the non-profit organization, The Door, which serves meals and provides other services to at-risk teens in NYC. Bake, decorate...and eat some too!A suggested donation of $5/person would be appreciated to cover the costs of baking and decorating supplies. (Apologies to alumnae of other classes who received an earlier email about this event - unfortunately, space is limited, but we appreciate your enthusiasm.)

She will be speaking on the Temple of Dendur in The Sackler Wing, the ancient and modern history of this Roman-period temple, focusing on its relief images, which depict interactions between Egyptian and Nubian gods and the Roman Emperor Augustus in his role as Egyptian pharaoh. In January, Barbara leaves New York to take up her appointment as Director of the American Center of Oriental Research in Amman, Jordan. She has held various positions throughout the years at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, taught for several semesters at New York University, and led several Smithsonian and Metropolitan Museum tours to the Near East and excavated in Jordan and Syria.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bryn Mawr Book Club On Thursday, December 15, 2005, the Bryn Mawr Book Club will discuss 'Heartburn' by Nora Ephron. From the Virago Press web site: "Heartburn
is Nora Ephron's roman a clef of the break up of her marriage to Carl

again, I would have made a different kind of pie. The pie I threw at
Mark made a terrific mess, but a blueberry pie would have been even better,
since it would have permanently ruined his new blazer, the one he bought
with Thelma ...I picked up the pie, thanked God for linoleum floor, and
threw it.' Rachel Samstat is smart,

The January selection is 'The Hungry Tide' by Amitav Ghosh. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DUES The Bryn Mawr Club of New York City receives no financial support from the College or the Alumnae Association.
